News & Updates

Well, hello everyone!  It has been a while, hasn't it? :)
It's no secret that I kind of fell off the writing bandwagon and that is absolutely terrible. I've always been horrible at staying on any sort of writing schedule and it's a continual work in progress for me.

So, a few updates on writing and where the story sits currently.

I thought that In Her Waking Hours was ready for the editing part of the process but I was wrong.  The story isn't finished and I'm currently working on a rewrite. It's going slow but it is going.

I've always known that there would be one main novel and a companion novella. I've also always planned on giving one of the other characters a story of her own. In all honesty, I have to fight her off because she wants her story to be written badly. There are a couple characters that have been in my head for a year or two and they would fit perfectly in this book so they will also be introduced.  This world that branches from In Her Waking Hours is slowly building and I am quickly considering just making it a series instead of individual standalones. If anything, it will be a series of standalones. Which brings me to my next issue... a name for the series. I'm thinking of something along the lines of Treading Water or Beneath The Surface... Who knows. It'll probably end up being nothing similar.  haha.

Until next time, guys.

Oh, P.S... did you notice the site redesign?? :D  I redesigned the header for this site as well as my blog, Twitter, YouTube and Facebook pages. They all go together and I am so in love with the new style. I hope you guys enjoy it as well!

Updates & News!

Hey guys!
So it's unfortunately been forever since I have updated here and let you guys know what was going on with In Her Waking Hours. I hate to say it but I lost my groove there for a little bit but I'm back in the game!  I've popped out about three chapters for my beta readers this past two weeks and I'm working harder to get more for them.  I'm hoping to get as much done as I can before November because I really want to participate in NaNoWriMo this year.  I want On His Darkest Nights to be my NaNo project but I'm not sure if I'll have enough of my current book done before it rolls around. I'm going to do what I can though!

Okay, on to some more exciting news...

I will be attending the 2015 New Orleans Author and Reader Convention in July!  I'm so insanely excited and I have to thank Annie Welch, author of the Saving Angels series.  If you guys haven't checked her books out then you definitely need to!  She is such a beautiful writer and you'll just fall in love with her characters.

But anyway, we were discussing something for the last book in the Saving Angels series (something super exciting for me!!) and Annie was kind enough to offer me a ticket.  She knows how much I love New Orleans, her hometown, so this definitely means so much to me and I cannot wait to experience New Orleans finally.

So yeah!  That's all I have for you for now but I will definitely be updating more often now that I've gotten my groove back.

Stay tuned!

The Writing Process Blog Hop

I was tagged by my beautiful and talented author friend Annie Rose Welch to participate in this blog hop.  She is the author of the Marigny StreetRed Dirt Road, and Lotus Blossom Lane, books one through three of the Saving Angels series.  I highly recommend her, so go check her out!

So what this blog hop is all about is learning more about authors, what they're working on and how they go about the writing process. I was super excited to participate and it honestly blows my mind that I'm being included in authorly things!  I don't think I will ever get used to this!  There are four questions for me to answer for you guys, so let's get started!

1. What am I working on right now?
I'm currently working on my first novel, In Her Waking Hours.  This will be the first book in my New Adult series Silver Springs.  This book started out completely different, with bits of the paranormal twisted into it, but as I continued writing, I felt that it was more centered around the contemporary aspects of the story.  I completely changed it around and have a lot more to rewrite and rework as I continue with my first round of edits.  I'm super excited to get it finished and get it out there that I can hardly contain myself!  Here is the current synopsis for it (please keep in mind that this could always change):

The day that I was swept under the cold waters beneath Willow Creek bridge was the day that my life changed forever.    Nothing could have been more horrible than that moment.  That's what I thought anyway.
I was wrong.
He saved my life, pulling me from from my death and forever placing himself inside my heart.  He was my savior, the one that I would never be able to forget.  The one that I would always want but could never have.
I was wrong.
That day changed him too.
Now everything feels like it's falling into place, exactly where it should.  The pieces are aligning into the perfect picture of what I always dreamed my life would be.  I didn't realize how quickly things were about to change.
Someone has been watching.
Someone has been waiting.
We weren't the only ones on the bridge that day and now someone is determined to twist my life into something dark.
To break me.
To haunt me.
To kill me.
In Her Waking Hours was actually my 2013 NaNoWriMo project and I plan to work on it's companion novella On His Darkest Nights during the April 2014 segment of Camp NaNoWriMo.

2. How does my work differ from others in the genre?
I have to admit that this is a hard question for me to answer.  I think one thing that is different is my characters.  I think a lot of times in New Adult and Young Adult, the main female character is often portrayed as an innocent little virgin that has never experienced life.  A good girl that finds a guy who opens up her entire world.  My girls will still find guys that will improve their lives but I like to keep it as realistic as possible.  My girls had a life before that guy and I don't mind showing that.  They're not all little princesses with a perfect past.  They drink, they've had sex, they've fallen in love before.  I think when I read a character that is the opposite of that, I feel like I can't connect with them on a real life level.  I'm not saying my characters or real life women around that age are all partying hoes, but more often than not, they've experienced things while they're young and they've made mistakes.  I don't plan to shy away from that.

3. Why do I write what I do?
I write what I like to read and what I know, what I've experienced in my own life.  The only exception to that is paranormal.  I love reading paranormal and do have some ideas for future novels/series but I mainly focus on contemporary.  I love love and the magical whirlwind that happens when you first meet someone that you know will change your life forever.  I love the feeling of falling and learning more about yourself and who you are in the process of creating something beautiful.

My books will also have a darker side to them because I believe that there's a balance in life.  Bad things won't always happen but they often do and it's how we deal with those situations and the people that support us that make us stronger.  Those moments in life are hard but they happen for a reason and I feel like, out of those moments, we learn and we grow and we step just a little closer to who we are and who we want to be in life.

4. How does my writing process work?
Honestly, I have absolutely no idea.  I'm still figuring that out myself. :)  I'm a learner and I continue to learn from myself the further that I go along with this.  I've always wanted to be a writer and have nourished the passion since I knew how.  It's a journey that doesn't always seem to make sense but becomes a little more clear each time I put pen to paper or my fingers touch a keyboard.  As a writer it's hard to see how I've grown sometimes but I love to look back on the things that I've written in the past and see how I've improved and how I can still fall in love with a story that was poorly written.  Those moments are an opportunity for me to take those words that I felt so clearly then and rework them into something new and shiny until they're polished enough for me to show to others.

It's a never ending process, this writing thing, but I'm always improving and striving to be better than I was yesterday.  I just hope everyone else appreciates my words as much as I do. <3
